Let’s Work Together→This is America
An illustrated poster exploring race, identity and inequality in modern America, inspired by the themes and social commentary of Childish Gambino’s 'This Is America'.

A little about the project.
Create a visual response to 'This Is America' that communicates the song’s themes through graphic design. I wanted the poster to confront the contrast between everyday American imagery and the darker realities of racism, violence and inequality.
From idea to direction.
I used a deliberately raw, hand-drawn illustration style to make the work feel immediate and uncomfortable rather than polished. Familiar American imagery is combined with references to policing and social inequality, while expressive typography reinforces the sense of urgency.

Developing the idea.
I began by researching the song, its music video and the wider social issues referenced throughout it. I experimented with composition, handwritten typography and illustrated imagery before refining the strongest elements into one poster. The imperfect line work became an important part of the final visual language.

The finished result.
The final poster combines illustration, typography and social commentary into a deliberately rough visual style. Rather than simply representing the song, the design aims to encourage the viewer to look more closely at the issues beneath the image of modern America.

Seen enough?
There’s more where that came from.
